GTA 6 Release Delays: Why Rockstar Takes Their Time
GTA 6 was announced for 2025 and later delayed to 2026. Rockstar and Take-Two often prioritise polish and scope over hitting the first date. Here’s why delays happen and what they mean for GTA 6.
Quality Over Speed
Rockstar has a history of delaying games until they meet their own bar. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 were both delayed and still sold and reviewed exceptionally. A 2026 window gives more time for tech, gameplay, and content.
Scope and Ambition
Map size, density, and new systems (e.g. wildlife, dual protagonists) add scope. Pushing that into a single release often means either cutting scope or moving the date. Rockstar tends to move the date. Our development timeline summarises the journey so far.
What to Expect
A 2026 release, if met, should mean a more complete and stable game. Until then, GTA 5 Mobile and GTA Online continue to get support. For the latest on pre-orders and GTA 5, visit our homepage.
